Founded in 2020, colorado.bike is designed to be the best resource for bicyclists, both within Colorado and those who wish to visit and ride in The Centennial State. We give you a local’s perspective on where to ride, where to stay, and where to enjoy your time off the bicycle in Colorado. We will be constructing a building in Idaho Springs in the near future to provide rental accommodations to bikers and hikers. The space will also include two or three units of long-term affordable housing for Idaho Springs, Clear Creek, and Gilpin County workers and residents. Construction is already underway on Virginia Canyon Mountain Park, a 400 acre City of Idaho Springs, Colorado park with extensive hiking and mountain biking trails that will surround our headquarters soon! We are not associated with Virginia Canyon Mountain Park or the City of Idaho Springs, Colorado.

Created by former University of Georgia mountain bike racer Alex Otto, colorado.bike has the thrill and sense of adventure cycling provides at its core. Community and collaboration are founding principles of this website and company’s outlook for the near and distant future. We aim to remove and reduce barriers to cycling, believing that cycling is a lifelong gift for individuals, families, communities, and the Earth. The benefits cycling and fitness bring to people should be universally available and promoted in the 21st century, a time increasingly defined by technological advances aiming to reduce harmful emissions and mobilize people while minimally impacting the environment.

This includes, but is not limited to, helmet, gloves, eye protection, shin guards, elbow and knee pads, and proper closed-toed footwear. colorado.bike also recommends an appropriately sized bicycle for all riders of all ages and skill levels. colorado.bike encourages all riders to become familiar with their bicycle and know the maintenance history of the bicycle. A pre-ride inspection of crucial parts, including but not limited to tires, brakes, wheels, chain, derailleur, gears, seat, suspension, and frame is advised. The team here at colorado.bike is a strong believer in the concepts “Tread Lightly,” “Leave No Trace,” and “Pack it in, Pack it out.” Nature doesn’t need our wrappers and bottle caps lying around. Please do your part to remove any pieces of trash you may have brought or created while bicycling. Even better, help pick up some trash you encounter while in wild or natural places. Plan meals prepared with foods that do not come in packaging, whether that packaging is recyclable or not. For more details, please ask a colorado.bike representative for helpful advice.

North view from the Continental Divide along Highway 40. Water falling east of this point flows into the Gulf of Mexico via the Platte, Arkansas, and Mississippi Rivers. Rain and snowmelt to the west makes its way to the Pacific via the Colorado River and Gulf of California, the gulf between Baja Mexico and the Mexican mainland.

colorado.bike is committed to safety before, during, and after your bicycle adventure. With this in mind, colorado.bike does not recommend the use of marijuana or alcohol products before or during your ride. Marijuana and alcohol impair motor skills, reaction time, and can create unnecessarily dangerous situations from common or normal bicycling activities. Please refrain from using marijuana at colorado.bike associated rental properties unless its use is explicitly allowed by the property owner. Each property owner will indicate their stance in their property’s profile.

Rent a bicycle while in Colorado; you’ll be glad you did!

We would like to inform any first-time visitors to the state that altitude can cause humans to experience shortness of breath, dizziness, disorientation, and other similar symptoms. Our advice is to consult your primary care physician before any trip to Colorado or places with high elevation you may be unfamiliar with. Our brief advice for acclimatizing to elevation is to drink plenty of water, regardless of the season, and take it slow and easy on your first few days at elevation.
